ITDP has been working in Jakarta since 2002, providing technical and advocacy assistance for the city’s TransJakarta BRT, which became Asia’s first high quality BRT system when it opened in 2004. Today, ITDP continues to promote and advocate for greater enforcement of TransJakarta’s busyway, as well as expansions, such as integrating more feeder lines, and other improvements to increase ridership. Since 2015, ITDP Indonesia’s work has resulted in a jump in daily ridership, from 650,000 to ~950,000 per day. The project is ongoing with a goal of reaching one million. In the Indonesian cities of Medan and Semarang, ITDP has conducted BRT feasibility studies, and is working with the cities to open systems in 2021.
